P2P Foe MediaDefender Gets Hacked

Pirate_2MediaDefender which offers record labels and others services like spoofing to fight unauthorized file trading via P2P has been hacked by a group calling itself MediaDefender Defenders and hundreds of internal documents and emails are now public on BitTorrent.

Yesterday an 25 minute excerpt of a phone conversation between MediaDefender and the office of the Attorney General of New York was released by the hackers on PirateBay.

This hack which is being called one of the largest and most damaging of its kind, calls into question the ongoing effectiveness of MediaDefender and other similar efforts by rights holders to thwart P2P activity.
