US trade negotiators had emphatically stated that Russia must get much tougher with intellectual property protection before it would back entry into the World Trade Organization. Specifically mentioned was notorious Russian download site allofmp3.com.
But this weekend as Presidents Bush and Putin announced that the US was officially backing Russia's bid, and search of related news stories and documents made no mention of an allofmp3.com shutdown. In fact promises of real intellectual property protection seemed vague at best.
UPDATE: As of this writing at 4PM EST today (Monday) allofmp3.com still had thousands of hit track available at cut-rate prices like this week's Billboard chart topper "Now That's What I Call Music 23" for $3.23.
